Engines that operate through internal combustion rely on large amounts of clean air to ensure the fuel burns properly and generates the power needed to drive the vehicle. At One Stop Auto Care in Nerang, we understand how vital it is to keep your car's air filter in good condition as part of protecting your engine's health. Your engine requires extremely clean air to function efficiently. Dirt, dust, and other particles entering the engine can cause serious damage. That’s where the air filter comes into play. It ensures the air entering the combustion chambers is clean, shielding key engine components such as the pistons and cylinders from wear and damage. Why Replace Your Air Filter? Save on Fuel Costs: Your engine requires the correct balance of fuel and air to run efficiently. A clogged air filter restricts airflow, causing your engine to run inefficiently – often referred to as ‘running rich.’ This not only puts additional stress on your engine but can also increase fuel consumption by up to 10%. No one likes spending more on petrol than necessary! Protect Your Engine: Over time, air filters become clogged and weaker, increasing the risk of damage. A damaged or overly dirty air filter can allow harmful particles to enter the engine, potentially leading to expensive repairs. Benefits of Replacing Your Air Filter: Extends the life of your engine Improves fuel efficiency Reduces vehicle emissions At One Stop Auto Care, we always check the condition of your air filter during every full car service. Whether it’s a major or minor service, or one that follows your manufacturer’s handbook or logbook guidelines, you can trust us to keep your engine running smoothly.

Keep your engine healthy with clean air filters. Improve fuel efficiency, reduce emissions, and extend engine life. Visit One Stop Auto Care for expert maintenance and reliable car servicing.

One Stop Auto Care is your go-to expert for all your vehicle air conditioning needs in Nerang. Whether it’s re-gas, inspection, repair, or servicing, we've got you covered. Your car's air conditioning system utilises refrigerant to extract excess heat from the interior and expel it outside, leaving behind cool, conditioned air for circulation. Regular checks of the rubber seals for leaks or deterioration are crucial as these could indicate refrigerant loss. For optimal performance, the refrigerant in your vehicle's air conditioning system should be completely refilled within four years of the car’s manufacture date and subsequently every two to three years. At One Stop Auto Care, we are committed to the environment and hold Arctick Authorisation (AU54911) to conduct automotive air conditioning re-gas, repair, service, or inspection responsibly. As a Repco Authorised Service centre, our technicians perform a vehicle inspection during every service. We’ll inform you of any parts that may need replacement soon or are already damaged beyond repair. We can arrange automotive air conditioning services with a licenced technician in Nerang and nearby areas. Trust One Stop Auto Care for all your car air conditioning needs. For reliable and professional air conditioning services, contact One Stop Auto Care in Nerang today! Read some of our Air Con Frequently Asked Questions; How do air conditioners work? A car air conditioner system is composed of four essential parts : A belt-driven pump known as a compressor to compress and circulate gas. A radiator like unit called a condenser to redistribute heat and condense gas to a liquid. An expansion device, which could be a thermal expansion valve (TXV) or an orifice tube (subject to the kind of air-con system used). Some systems have an accumulator before the compressor to remove moisture from the refrigerant while TXV systems have a receiver-dryer before the evaporator performs the same crucial task. Both of these parts also store refrigerant. Car air conditioning is designed to pull the heat from the air within the car's interior area and transfer it outside, leaving only cooled or 'conditioned' air to be redistributed. Hot air is passed across a gas-filled evaporator, where the heat is easily absorbed by the refrigerant (in gas form), effectively removing the heat from the air in the car. The now heated gas is pulled through the compressor where it is further heated (via compression). The next stage involves the refrigerant being forced through the condenser to extract the refrigerant's heat quickly. The refrigerant, now condensed to a liquid, then moves through the expansion device (either a TXV or Orifice tube), which regulates the refrigerant's flow to the evaporator, changing the high-pressure liquid to a low-pressure mist (gas). A fan blowing over the evaporator's cold fins produces the cold air being blown into the car, and the entire process then begins all over again. Does the car air conditioner use more fuel? Yes! Your car air conditioning is using fuel. However, it's actually more fuel efficient to run car air conditioning than it is to have your windows down due to aerodynamic drag. If your air conditioning isn't performing its best, it may use more fuel to run. To avoid this, it's important that you have your air conditioning serviced regularly by professionals, like the ones at One Stop Auto Care. What's the cause of the bad smell in car air conditioning? The damp environment can promote microbes, bacteria and even fungus growth inside the evaporator core. This can lead to nasty smells and possibly even be bad for the health of any vehicle occupants. Although modern evaporator units tend to be more efficient, they have more fins, meaning an increased capability to trap moisture and allow for micro-organism development. How do I know my car air conditioning is due for a service? If you cannot remember when your air conditioning was last serviced, perhaps it's time to book in with the team at One Stop Auto Care. You should also book in if: Your air conditioning system is blowing warm air There are damp patches or water stains under your dashboard Your car air conditioning system smells funny Your car air conditioning system is making strange noises There is weak air flow from the car air conditioning system Why does the car air conditioner need to be serviced? Car air conditioning is designed to pull the heat from the air within the interior area of the car outside, leaving only cooled or 'conditioned' air to be redistributed. This is achieved using a special compound called refrigerant, capable of readily absorbing heat as a gas and quickly losing heat as a liquid. The compressor needs the right amount of oil in the refrigerant to prevent it from seizing up. Should the air filters be jammed with dirt and bacteria, it will affect the entire system's performance, and it can even cause it to stop working altogether. On top of inhibiting air conditioner efficiency, dirty air filters can cause health problems. Being exposed to the elements and very diverse operating conditions and being used intermittently rather than being 'Always On' can cause decay of the hoses, connections and seals. A vehicle air conditioning system should be examined regularly to ensure there are no problems or refrigerant loss due to failure or leakage from these points. Simply by cooling the air in your car under normal running conditions, the air filters get dirty and intermittent use can cause seals to dry and crack, allowing them to leak. Even without leaks, the gas in a car air conditioning system will eventually begin to degrade or evaporate over time. It should be recharged as required to keep the air con system in peak running condition. How often should a car air conditioner be serviced? Your automotive air conditioning system needs to be examined once a year for any signs of problems with the seals, hoses and connections and confirm there is no refrigerant reduction over time. Regularly servicing your automotive air conditioner system keeps refrigerant at optimum levels meaning the system does not need to work as hard. This, in turn, protects the system from damage and minimises fuel expenditure. Can I service my own car air conditioner? Only qualified mechanics with the appropriate training, like the ones at One Stop Auto Care, should attempt to service a car air conditioner. Specific licences are required to service or repair some types of car air conditioning systems, especially where re-gas (recharging of the refrigerant) is concerned. Strict guidelines and procedures must be adhered to when handling certain refrigerants, which must always be fully recovered and not allowed to escape into the atmosphere during servicing. Refrigerant can also pose serious health risks if mishandled. Specialist equipment is also required as the air conditioning system is under extreme pressure and must be pulled into a deep vacuum to remove any moisture, to avoid seriously damaging the system. You can find out more about licensing on the Australian Refrigeration Council (ARC) Website.

Car Air Conditioning FAQs

Most people only think about their car's air conditioning when it stops blowing cold air. However, a gradual loss of performance often goes unnoticed, affecting not only cabin comfort but also how efficiently your vehicle operates.

At One Stop Auto Care in Nerang, we believe understanding how your air conditioning system works helps you recognise small problems before they become expensive repairs. Our licensed technicians inspect, maintain and repair R134a automotive air conditioning systems to help keep your vehicle comfortable and operating efficiently. Your air conditioner shouldn't just blow cold air—it should do it efficiently without making your engine work harder than necessary. Can Air Conditioning Affect Fuel Economy? Yes. Whenever your air conditioning is operating, the compressor is driven by the engine, which requires energy.

If the system is low on refrigerant or isn't operating efficiently, the compressor may need to work harder, placing a greater load on the engine. While air conditioning will always use some fuel, keeping the system properly maintained helps it operate as efficiently as possible.

Regular servicing also helps identify refrigerant leaks, worn seals and failing components before they develop into more expensive repairs. Why Air Conditioning Performance Changes Over Time Your vehicle's air conditioning system is made up of several components that work together, including the compressor, condenser, evaporator, receiver-drier, hoses, seals and refrigerant.

Over time, rubber seals naturally age, vibration can loosen fittings, and small amounts of refrigerant may gradually escape. Even a slight loss of refrigerant can reduce cooling performance and force the compressor to work harder than necessary.

Because these changes often happen gradually, many drivers don't notice the decline until the system struggles on a particularly hot day. Signs Your Air Conditioning Needs Attention If you notice any of these symptoms, it's worth having your system inspected: Air isn't as cold as it used to be Weak airflow from the vents Unpleasant or musty smells inside the cabin Air conditioning taking longer to cool the vehicle Increased fuel consumption when using the A/C These symptoms don't always mean major repairs are needed, but early diagnosis can often prevent more costly problems later. More Than Just Cold Air An air conditioning system does more than cool the cabin.

It also helps remove humidity from the air, improving visibility by clearing fogged windows and creating a more comfortable driving environment. A clean, properly maintained system is also less likely to develop mould, bacteria and unpleasant odours within the ventilation system. Why Running Your Air Conditioner All Year Matters Many drivers only switch on the air conditioner during summer. In reality, operating it for around 10 minutes every couple of weeks—even during winter—helps circulate refrigerant oil through the system, keeping seals lubricated and reducing the chance of them drying out. Regular use also helps the system remove moisture from the cabin, making it easier to demist the windscreen during cooler weather. Professional Air Conditioning Servicing If your vehicle's air conditioning isn't cooling as well as it once did, has developed unpleasant odours or you're noticing higher fuel consumption when it's operating, the team at One Stop Auto Care can inspect and maintain R134a automotive air conditioning systems before small issues become costly repairs.

Whether you're preparing for a Queensland summer or simply want to improve year-round comfort, an air conditioning inspection is a smart investment in your vehicle's efficiency and reliability.
